There is nothing quite like camping in the great outdoors. We spend so much of our lives inside, it’s nice to get out into nature once in a while. Inexperienced campers may not get the most out of their time outside if they come ill-prepared.
Dean Buescher is a business management specialist who loves to spend his free time out in nature. Today he shares his top 7 tips for beginner campers so that you have a great time on your adventures.
- Check the weather forecast, and be prepared for the weather to change unexpectedly. Even if it’s hot outside during the day, it can get chilly at night. Especially if you are sleeping in a tent, you want to make sure you have enough layers.
- Don’t forget to pack essentials, e.g. a first aid kit, lanterns, tent, sleeping bags, sunscreen, etc. There are lots of great packing lists for camping online.
- As a beginner, see if you can borrow camping gear from friends and family or buy it second-hand. This will save you money if you decide camping isn’t for you, or you can’t go very often.
- Check the rules of the campground you are staying at, as these may vary between campsites.
- If you ever need help, do not be afraid to ask other campers, park rangers, or campsite staff for help.
- Don’t stray too far from where you live if this is your first time camping. If something goes wrong, you’ll be close by.
- Be responsible with your trash, especially good waste, as it can attract wildlife.
